Akio earned his Bachelors of Music in Oboe Performance from Morningside College in 2003 and an Associates of Applied Science in Band Instrument Repair from Western Iowa Tech in 2005.

He has performed with the Sioux City Symphony on oboe and English horn.  He has been a member of The Pikes Peak Flute Choir since 2005 and the President of the organization from 2009 to 2013, performing in this ensemble primarily on contrabass and bass flutes.

Also an avid arranger, his works include pieces for flute choir ranging from classical symphony movements and overtures to popular songs. One of his primary goals with his work for flute choir is to increase the technical range and versatility of low flute (alto, bass, and contrabass flute) expectations beyond the traditional boundaries.
