Jane Sandstrom, Instrument Manager

Jane Sandstrom

Secretary & Instrument Manager

concert flute, alto flute and piccolo

Jane Sandstrom has never fully understood where her passion for the flute originated, but is thankful her parents bought her a used flute in fifth grade in spite of other instruments readily available.  Her love of music grew out of hearing music played at home, and by regularly attending plays and concerts with her family. She has played the flute for over 40 years!

A recent transplant to Colorado Springs, Jane is an active musician in her new community and loves being a part of the Pikes Peak Flute Choir. She also plays with the Colorado College band, Rocky Mountain Wind Symphony, New Horizons Band and Village Arts Productions. Prior to living in Colorado she lived in Fairbanks, Alaska where she treasured playing for the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra, Opera Fairbanks orchestra, Fairbanks Light Opera Theatre, the Fairbanks Flutists and the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival. She has participated in masterclasses given by Marcel Moyse, William Bennett, Geoffrey Gilbert, Alexa Still, Massimo Mercelli and Sarah Jackson. She has studied with David Van de Bogart, John Barcellona, Dorli McWayne, Brook Ferguson and Paul Nagem.

A native of Nebraska, Jane was a flute performance and biology major at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She holds a Master’s degree from Arizona State University, is a Nationally Board Certified teacher and is a recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching. She and husband Greg have three lively dogs who are all soothed by the sound of the flute, but only one loves the piccolo.
