concert flute, bass flute & contrabass flute

When Rosi was in the 4th grade she was given a flutophone and played and played it.  Since the girls in the Tipp City, Ohio marching band didn't play the flutophone, it was time to get a new flute and piccolo.  She really loved practicing and didn't even know that some music was written with sharps.

After moving to Denver in the 9th grade Rosi went to South High School and played in the citywide band and orchestra.  When she received a music scholarship to Defiance College in Ohio, she played in the college and town orchestra.  The College's President McCann was a ghostwriter for former President Dwight D. Eisenhower.  President and Mamie Dowd Eisenhower visited the McCann home often and Rosi played her flute at a Saturday afternoon tea given for Mamie Eisenhower.  Really!

Rosi graduated from Indiana University School of Dentistry in Dental Hygiene and just celebrated with her classmates their 50 year reunion in Indianapolis.

Rich and Rosi met on a ski lift in Breckenridge in 1968 and married after knowing each other 5 weeks.  They lived in Europe for 4 years and just had the best time living in a small village by the Main River.  They often traveled to Flanders and visited the DeBacker relatives in Moerkerke, Belgium.

After the flute lying dormant for close to forty years, she picked it up to play in the church flute choir.  Now she plays bass and some contrabass in The Pikes Peak Flute Choir as well.

Funny Fluties!

What is the strangest thing you’ve ever eaten?

Well in Belgium we enjoyed smoked horse meet and eel.  In Ohio recently we ate goat meatballs but not pickled hearts at the restaurant that bought the 4H club prized animals being served on the buffet.

What is one other instrument that you would love to learn to play?
It would be so very cool to be able to learn to play the harmonica more than just playing Red River Valley.  Not that Red River Valley is bad or anything!
